Oh, that maverick!

If there’s one thing a maverick can’t stand … it’s a maverick?

As the French say, such is life, in regards to the latest news from the John McCain presidential campaign. McCain aides are growing increasingly frustrated as vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin continues to not use “the remarks [they] sent her on the plane.”

They now have a term for when Sarah’s “just being Sarah:” “going rogue.”

One campaign source–unidentified, of course–painted an even more interesting portrait:

“‘She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone,’ this McCain adviser said. ‘She does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else.

‘Also, she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party. Remember: Divas trust only unto themselves, as they see themselves as the beginning and end of all wisdom.’”

Fortunately, we’re not voting for the reckless maverick that speaks off the cuff and rejects party lines for vice president: we’re voting for the straight-talkin’ maverick that scripts talking points for his vice presidential candidate.

(Did your head just explode?)

  1. PALIN IN '09 (from VP to President!) AND 2012 "legit" on October 27th, 2008 12:51 pm

It’s true that Sarah Palin does have the most executive experience
of all the candidates in this election. This experience includes
“spreading the wealth” (see: Alaska’s Windfall Profits Tax),
“abuse of power” (see: Troopergate), “questionable expenditures”
(see: Family travel expenses, hair and wardrobe costs).

But let us not get caught up in the here and now.
Let us journey through the past darkly:

From Lil’ Sarah Palin’s 4th Grade portfolio:

    DEMOCRATS = DEMOCRACY
As in “the democratically elected government of…”

    REPUBLICANS = REPUBLIC
As in The People’s Republic of China
    The People’s Republic of Cuba

I hope to grow up to: Live in a FREE Alaska and marry Joe Vogel,
the leader of the Alaskan Independence Party.

You forgot one detail: her middle name is Hussein.

I voted for McCain/Palin today!!! Some of us could care less what the biased media has to say.

    McCain/Palin

So…Sarah Palin is getting tired of being the McCain campaign’s “creation”, a role that has resulted in ridicule and a serious credibility gap. Sadly, this is the first time I feel any admiration for a woman who is clearly unqualified for this task but wants to stand up for herself, finally!!

  5. Mike on October 27th, 2008 1:40 pm

Let me get this straight… the Republicans did their homework, picked Palin as a running mate, declared the team of “Mavericks”… and now they are ticked because she’s doing her own thing?!?! Politics are worthless!! I mean Priceless!!

  6. OPAL on October 27th, 2008 1:45 pm

Looks like someone doesn’t know how to be under authority and a teamplayer. This just shows, lack of judgement on McCain and I’m “gonna” do what I like on Palin, hmmmm! America wants someone like this to be President of the USA running a muck doing her own thing? What were we saying from the beginning, “We told you!”

  7. JohnRJ08 on October 27th, 2008 1:54 pm

Most people don’t know how or why Sarah Palin managed to pop up from nowhere and become John McCain’s running-mate. The story is revealing: http://johnrj08.wordpress.com/

Yuck. The woman is RNC Barbie. And McNasty is a tired issue.

Wow, McCain’s staff are getting their undies tied in a wad because she is speaking her mind? At least she isn’t making comments about how McCain is going to be tested within his first six months in office. The fact that she’s commenting on something so inconsequential and they are getting bent out of shape is telling of their attitude about conservative politicians. McCain is a consolation vote for most conservatives anyway let her speak her mind. She can’t be any worse than Senator “foot in my mouth” Biden.

There is only one answer for this: Mavericks Anonymous. Both McCain and Palin should be committed until they have completed treatment.

But there does need to be a decision about who is the real Maverick among the not-so-dynamic duo.

My money is on Palin since she can run faster than McCain (even in stiletto heels) and she is more refreshingly pro-American and is no longer just a well-coiffed Maverick Jr…

  11. Rick on October 27th, 2008 2:08 pm

Hm, I like the cut of your gibe, Mavalus. Perhaps we could seat these two mavericks against each other in a winner-takes-all high-stakes poker match.

Just for shucks, we could set it on a river steamboat.

  12. Nina on October 27th, 2008 2:18 pm

Just imagine what she would do should they win!
Palin’s only intrest is “self intrest”! Now she’s seeking benefits or someone to pick up the tab on Trig’s education and a private Home for him.
What was her take on this before Trig was born?

what kind of maverick can’t say, “i don’t like these clothes; it ain’t my style?”

it would’ve been more effective to do that than have a speech, while wearing the clothing you “don’t agree with”

i guess this is another situation in which plain supports the idea of women not having a say over what they do with their own bodies.

  14. groonk on October 27th, 2008 2:35 pm

“Also, she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party.”

i’d be scared poopless if i didn’t just remember that like failing stars, divas, too, collapse under their own weight in the end.

and i assure you, sirrah. she’s no Anna Marie: http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Rogue_(Anna_Marie)_(Earth-616)

  15. Esther on October 27th, 2008 2:36 pm

    Esther,

We’ve sent your riddle to the SG Lab. Rest assured that we will find the person that took away your language abilities and make him or her pay for their crime!

Stay strong, Esther. Think strong thoughts.

I’m a conservative republican, and still can’t believe that McCain chose Palin as his running mate. If ‘Dora the Explorer’ were a conservative republican, would you have vetted her? The real problem in the McCain camp is that the candidate isn’t the leader of his own campaign. He’s left the strategy making to a bunch of short sighted cronies that only seem to know how to react to the media instead of selling a vision. Why was Palin chosen? Because at the time, the media was so caught up in the two issues of “Who will Hillary supporters vote for?” and “Can McCain consolidate the conservative base” that he tried to plug someone that was A) a woman, and B) a conservative. Only problem is that Hillary supporters would never have voted for a right wing conservative even if she is female, and the conservative base would think you’re an idiot for choosing someone with so little experience. Oh yeah…and by the way…In choosing her McCain gave up his ability to argue his strongest position — that Obama wasn’t qualified. So, McCain as a leader? Uh NO. Not even close…And now, we’re staring at four years of borderline socialism with Barack “the marxist” Obama, a democratic senate, and Nanci “the liberal” Pelosi @ the head of the house. Yeah…THANKS, JOHN McCAIN — believe it or not, you actually had a chance to win (not that you were conservatives first choice), but because you’re an idiot, lack forsight, and fail to lead (which means you belong in the senate).

  18. KD on October 27th, 2008 2:54 pm

@ Greg — I couldn’t agree with you more. I wonder if McCain is punching himself in the gut in regret for choosing Palin.

  19. Chris "Chugs" Taylor on October 27th, 2008 5:56 pm

    Dear Groonk,
Your comic reference has thus made my day. Thank you sir.

    Sincerely,
