Take it from Snee: What this election really means

It is the dawn of a new day, a Wednesday, here in America, now that we have managed to elect a President for the 44th time in our history.

There were some among you who doubted it would happen — that the votes would be inconclusive because everyone voted for themselves. I am happy to say that this was not the case, and the nation will continue to have an executive branch for the next four years … despite everything that branch has done the past eight.

Of course, there are also some people who are trying to assign more meaning to this auspicious occasion than I’ve already mentioned above. They mean well, but — like most people who mean well — they are wrong. Read more

In non-election news …

Believe it or not, there are other things going on in the news other than the election results.

For instance, there’s always profanity.

The United states Supreme Court is currently trying to decide whether the FCC can crack down on expletives used during daytime or early evening television. In particular, the FCC wants to curb fleeting expletives, like when inarticulate rock stars win awards or hate the President.

(The latter, of course, being less of a problem now … unless someone gives Ted Nuggent a lifetime achievement award in the field of “Nutballs who Constantly Outlive Relevancy.”)

Presenting the FCC’s case, U.S. Solicitor General Gregory G. Garre had this to say about “the F-word”:

“The F-word is one of the most graphic, explicit and vulgar words in the English language for sexual activity,” he said.

The most graphic, explicit and vulgar word in the English language? Somebody hasn’t heard of a blumpkin.

And arguing for The Guys is Jusitce Paul Stevens, who presented this riddle to Garre:

“What if a ‘particular remark was really hilarious, very funny? Would that cause the FCC to think twice about imposing a fine?’ he asked Garre.”

A fine question, Justice Stevens.  A fine f–king question, indeedy.

Alright Obama, that’s a rap

In our continuing coverage of the election, and rappers rapping about the election, we bring you the following: What doesn’t solidify a resounding presidential win quite like a rap? Well apparently that’s how we’re doing things these days. Some threw parties, some watched the election with MTV in Arizona and Chicago, and then some of us decided to write a new rap about Obama becoming the President-elect, Will.i.am. So what if McCain had won? A new country song by Willie Nelson about life in a retirement community?

Filthy and satanic D&D nerds not welcome in pews

So, earlier in the year, creator of Dungeons and Dragons, Gary Gygax passed away. His memory was honored by super-duper geekfest GenCon, who raised over $17,000 in an auction for Gygax’s favorite charity, the Christian Children’s Foundation. Irony was probably not lost on Gygax. What is lost? The money, as the CCF has decided to refuse the money.

Why? Because the money was raised with the sale of D&D merchandise.

You see, because the money came from a gaming convention, it would disrupt their principles. The group is claiming that this is about the “integrity” of its name, which it says it won’t lend to events it had no hand in.

Oh dear. There’s sticking to your principles, and then there’s just … well, quite frankly, there’s myopia.
