Eat My Sports: FOUR MORE YEARS!

Good day readers. It’s alright if you forgot, and after all these years, we don’t expect anything. What? You don’t realize what we’re talking about? Sigh, I guess we’ll just sing “Happy Birthday” to ourselves …

Alright, now it’s time to stop moping around. It’s a celebration, enjoy yourselves. Today we turned four. Weird right? Doesn’t seem that long ago that amidst a four-way AIM conversation, that the four of us contrived this half-baked idea that people might actually read our spin on what’s happening around the world. And for the most part, not too many people do actually care about what we write, but we do strike a nerve with some, and this site my friends is for you.

We kicked around e-mails these past few weeks deciding if we should do some self-congratulatory things around the site. It was decided no by three out of four, but lucky for some, I have a listening problem. You see four years is a long time, you grow a lot in that time span. Think of where you were as a freshman in college, then what kind of person you became when you received your diploma. We’re talking light years folks. And we feel like we’ve evolved as well, we’ve gone from being hesitant about writing about boobs, farts, animal wars and booze, to being unabashed and brazen about it. Sophomoric? Maybe. But I bet you anything that you still laugh on the inside whenever you read “Uranus.”

It’s my part of whatever this may end up being to focus on sports. I do that in my free time anyways, but for the site it’s my job to make my take accessible outside of myself. Same goes for the rest of The Guys. In essence we work as a team. And as goes with all teams, you don’t have it figured out right away. For those of you who have followed us since the blogger.com days, you may remember that I was MIA for about a year out of the first year and a half we were up and running. And even when I did write, I mailed in like Shaq from 2007-2009. The site suffered because of it, and the rest of The Guys had to double their efforts  in order to make it work, thus leading to a lot of SeriouslyFiller to compensate for what I was not bringing to the table, and not the quality of work we should have been bringing.

In the Fall of 2007 I came back to the rest of the team and asked if they would have me back as part of the operations. I also came back with an idea for a weekly sports column, to ensure that production didn’t drop off. Luckily, they still valued my work, or all three were hammered. We have variating accounts. It took about six months after I came back for us to find the right flow, but for about the past two years now we have found a unique balance in posts, news, writing styles, boobs, farts and booze news. In other words, we found the right team chemistry. Cliche? Maybe. But we strive so hard for originality here that some things are cliche because they are true.

So when it comes time for us to have an anniversary, damn right I’m proud. Bryan, Rick, Chris, you guys should be as well. Don’t expect flowers or a cake, but take a moment to soak it all in that after four years at least a couple of people per day make a point to read what you think. And maybe, that means that since March 2, 2006, we have grown.

FART.
