Take it from Snee: The rainbow in every oil spill

So, how about that leak in the Gulf of Mexico, right?

You’re probably expecting a punchline about how terrible it is, or how many animals are going to die or how we could have avoided all of this by investing more in alternative renewable energy back in the 70s.

Well, you’re not going to get that here. In fact, I think this is a good thing. Allow me show you how, in every oil spoil, there’s a rainbow lining.

NOTE: Rick Snee is writing this article of its own free will. Any checks from BP have not cleared yet.

Must’ve been all that sexy abstinence talk

When family values Rep. Mark Souder (R-Ind.) announced he would resign his congressional seat after his affair with a female staffer, we were surprised. No, not because it was with a woman. We were surprised because we assumed that Souder had no genitals.

But that’s not important right now.

What is important is that the staffer in question, Tracy Jackson, also resigned. Jackson’s job was to produce videos for Souder on the topics of family values–including marital fidelity–and abstinence until marriage.

The Guys wish Ms. Jackson all the best on the next phase of her career where she trains babysitters until she’s caught molesting a baby.

No brain cancer for you!

By now, you have to have heard the rumors of cell phones giving you brain cancer of the biblical proportions. It’s been the greatest proponent for people telling drivers to not use a cell while driving (well, that and the tried and true “You look like a douchebag!”).

Welllllll, scientists just completed a massive, international study of the connection between brain cancer and mobile phone use, and it looks like those people are gonna have to get a new excuse. Maybe.

The new study, called INTERPHONE, is the largest of its type, and was organized by a division of the World Health Organization. Researchers wanted to find out if there was a link between two common types of brain cancer – glioma and meningioma – and mobile phone use. They studied 2,708 people with glioma, 2,409 with meningioma, and 7,658 people in a control group. Their subjects came from 13 different countries.

Unfortunately, results were both inconclusive and kind of weird. Why? It’s hard to conduct a scientific study that’s based in part on self-reported behaviors. Ultimately though, until researchers are able to get better data, it’s impossible to say whether there is a link between mobile phone use and brain cancer.

Some might say that’s not cause for relief, rather, it’s cause for more research. Those people are to be labeled whiners.

Blumenthal served in Vietnam … era

Richard Blumenthal, the attorney general of Connecticut, has a reputation for making outlandish statements. We even know him from trying to shut down Wii beer pong. But yesterday was worse.

It came out yesterday that Blumenthal, who is running for the U.S. Senate, did not actually serve in Vietnam, despite making many carefully worded claims he did, and at least once just flat out saying he did. In reality, he got at least five deferments, and then got into the Marine Corps Reserve, keeping him out of the war.
