MasterChugs Theater: ‘The Mighty Peking Man’

While Dino de Laurentiis was spending millions of Hollywood dollars on his lavish creation of King Kong, the Shaw Brothers of Hong Kong used spit, grit, baling wire and lots of stock film of terrified city dwellers pointing at the sky to bring you (cue major echo effect) The Mighty Peking Man!

Bad special effects, bad acting, bad script, cheap looking model set-ups, cheesy bloody special effects, sloppy continuity, mismatched color correction on the blue screen shots, the King Kong of Hong Kong … how could it go wrong?

Much ado about nuttin’

Parents at Edgewater Elementary School, Florida, are mad as hell and they are not going to take it from a six-year-old first grader anymore!

The contentious little girl has a severe peanut allergy and refuses to not attend her taxpayer-funded public school. This decision has resulted in her classmates having to take special precautions so that she doesn’t die or have an equally-melodramatic anaphylactic incident.

The parents of other students want her gone because their children are now expected to:

  • Wash their hands before school and after lunch.
  • Rinse their mouths after eating.

Yes, basic sanitary practices would offend Floridians.

In life, there are times when actions taken honestly and wholeheartedly seem like the right thing to do. Perhaps it’s free will, perhaps there’s a guiding force behind why they’re done.

And then there are times when it might seem as if the actions taken are by divine choice. Especially when that action is to slink up and down a pole using only your leg muscles.

Reportin’ ain’t easy

It’s a sad story, one with which The Guys are all too familiar: Newspapers are dying, and those who don’t lose their jobs can end up with pay cuts.

Kevin Provencher, now a former sports writer at the New Hampshire Union Leader, had a plan to deal with his slashed pay. In what is surely going to end up as new series on HBO, Provencher began moonlighting as a pimp. His plan went well until the police caught up with him.

He was sentenced to two and a half years on the cops and courts beat.
