It’s not always Amtrak’s fault

Squirrels are one of the most anarchic of our deadly animal foes. They enjoy making our cars swerve to avoid them, sometimes causing accidents, and they are unafraid of risking their lives to do so. One squirrel in New Jersey decided to be an innovator, and ruined the day of countless commuters in the process.

Amtrak and NJ Transit trains, nearly 130 in all, were delayed recently because a squirrel decided to touch a circuit breaker, which caused an electrical transformer to trip shut down the lights that direct engineers.

We can only hope that the squirrel was killed completing its mission.
