Grits — the breakfast, lunch and dinner dish prevalent all over the south — are typically known for three facts:
- Grits embody many different characteristics: cheesy, sweet, peppery, bacon-y, buttery or salty.
- Grits come in a bowl and have a soup-y consistency.
- Grits are grits.
That said, it should be no surprise that at the World Grits Festival, things can get a bit messy, especially when an event is named “Rolling in the Grits.” Contestants plunge into a pool filled with grits, and whoever comes out with the most still on them wins a monetary prize.
If you plan on entering that contest, you better hope that Reggie Watts isn’t your opponent.
