The McBournie Minute: White House intruders you’ve never heard of

The hot new trend in Washington, D.C. is to hop the White House fence. It’s the federal equivalent of running on to the field during a baseball game, except the security is in better shape and more heavily armed. But lately those in charge of keeping the presidential mansion safe have gotten heat for some big failures.

Most notably was Omar Gonzalez, a mentally ill veteran, who got into the White House and sprinted into the East Room, before an off-duty Secret Service agent tackled him. Crabs on a plane

It’s not the story of the latest knockoff by The Asylum.

It’s not the story of the people who joined the Mile High Club.

It’s the story of crabs that tried to bring down a flight … and it’s real.

A shipment of crabs caused delays last week when they got loose. Someone, clearly asleep at the wheel when it came to their job, did not kill the crabs beforehand, and another person, also clearly at the wheel when it came to their job, did not secure them well enough. The crabs managed to make their way out of the cargo hold. Luckily, no passengers were on the plane at the time, but it inconvenienced them, and that’s a blow enough for us to eradicate the crustaceans. Wars have been started over less, after all.

People are discriminated against every day simply because they dress like a pirate. Last week was not an isolated incident.

On Talk Like a Pirate Day, a North Carolina elementary school staff member dressed as a pirate, probably because he’s a method actor. It wasn’t long before police were called because of a “suspicious person,” and the school was put on lock down. Someone saw the staff member as a threat simply because he chose to dress like a pirate.

The struggle is real.
