Eat My Sports: Struggling with the Heat index

As we take our turn into December for the NBA season, slow starts are no reason to panic, for most teams. However, this is not most years, and the Miami Heat are definitely not most teams, and if I were Pat Riley, I wouldn’t push it, but I’d be staring pretty hard at that panic button right now.

The LeBron James Experiment thus far has not gone as planned. Dwayne Wade looks in limbo and Chris Bosh looks more lost than any player outside of Brian Scallibrine. And with six losses already, those talks about the Heat rivaling the ’95-’96 Chicago Bulls’ record of 72 wins are far gone out the window.

What the Heat tried to leapfrog by acquiring James and Bosh this summer was team continuity. You can’t just throw together a bunch of All-Stars and expect championships to start raining down like confetti. Just see the ’03-’04 Los Angeles Lakers.

Miami may keep saying its still early, but just look at the Minnesota Vikings as current evidence that it’s still early can turn into its too late in a heartbeat.

Top five games you can bet on this week:
5. San Diego Chargers (pick ’em) over Indianapolis Colts

Never bet against the Chargers in November.
4. Pittsburgh Steelers (-6) over Buffalo Bills
Ryan Fitzpatrick is in for a rude awakening.
3. Minnesota Vikings (+3) over Washington Redskins
A coaching change almost always sparks a victory.
2. New York Jets (-9) over Cincinatti Bengals
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the case of Plamer V. Revis.
1. New England Patriots (-6.5) over Detroit lions
