Eat My Sports: The narrative isn’t done

Like many of you, I thought I had written my last column on Peyton Manning last month after the Broncos dispensed the Carolina Panthers to win Super Bowl 50. That’s how it was supposed to end, Manning wins his second title and rides off into the sunset, yet here we are now having reports leak that Manning may want to give it another go.

While it is annoying that the story doesn’t end, I can honestly see why Manning would want to come back, I do understand that he won’t want people’s final memories of him playing were of him limping to the finish.

This leads us to the question of where will he end up? It’s clear the relationship with the Broncos and John Elway has soured, and Denver is OK moving on as they’ve seen they can win with both Brock Osweiler and Manning. The only QB-needy teams right now are the Texans, Browns, Rams and depending on how you view the situation with Ryan Fitzpatrick, the Jets.

The New York situation makes the most sense as it’s the most similar to what Manning won a Super Bowl this year with. Surreal defense, solid running game, just don’t screw it up by turning the ball over. While it’s hard to imagine Manning in a jersey for any of these squads, realistically, they are his only options barring a huge injury to another starting QB.

Where he ends up is a mystery, but we still haven’t heard our last “Omaha” yet.
