Kobayashi (Maru) beaten by another loophole

It’s said that you just can’t keep a true champ down. Takeru Kobayashi is a true champ in only the vaguest sense of the word, but nonetheless, he’s decided to make 2011 the year of Kobayashi, despite having had a bit of a rough couple years. Since deciding not to sign an exclusive contract with Major League Eating, Kobayashi was banned from competing in Nathan’s annual hot dog eating championship, an event that he helped make famous.

This year, instead of getting arrested, Kobayashi decided to instead have an unofficial event at a bar. As such, he successfully downloaded 69 hot dogs into his mouth in ten minutes, defeating the official world record by 1 hot dog and smashing Joey Chestnut’s recent 62 hot dog performance over at Nathan’s.

Which is nice if you don’t like getting big money or national acclaim for destroying your colon in the country that helped make you famous. And we ain’t talking about Glorious Nippon. So there’s that.
