The McBournie Minute: Socialism is all around us

In the U.S., we often pride ourselves on living free. We can kind of get dramatic about it sometimes (“Give me liberty or give me death.”), but overall we consider ourselves the greatest country in the world. But little by little, we have seen our country become infused with some very un-free and un-capitalistic points of view. We have been the creeping of socialism. We’ve been hearing a lot about it lately, and our president-elect is about to roll-out his plan for the socialist state.

This is simply not acceptable. We need to take a harder look at what our government is doing and how it is slowly slipping away from its purpose. Luckily, my watchful eye has found some examples.

Social Security
This one should be pretty obvious, “social” is right there in it, it’s even the first word. The whole point of social security is that retirees can retire and enjoy their time in Death’s waiting room. Who funds social security? Why, we the taxpayers do. One class bending over backwards for the benefit of another class. We call that socialism. The worst part about it is that the Baby Boomers are going to bankrupt the whole system before anyone currently paying taxes will get to see the fruits of their labor. I say kick the freeloading seniors to the curb. Get a job, you bums.

The so-called ‘Labor Movement’
You know who really likes the working man (aside from Republicans in an election year)? Carl Marx, and I am pretty sure he was a socialist. The Labor Movement of the 20th century just made the working man lazy and hindered the entrepreneur’s ability to turn a profit. Now, if a company doesn’t provide health insurance, paid vacation and decent wages, the workers will unite (sound familiar?) and stop working until they get their way. Meanwhile the American businessman is trying to make his money and keep jobs in the U.S. Shame on you, Labor Movement. I say bring back child labor, it teaches discipline.

Unemployment
We pay people who don’t have jobs. Don’t get me started on this one, welfare state.

Regulation
There was a time when the airline industry was regulated. The federal government kept a close eye on the airlines to make sure they were keeping customers happy and ticket prices were not higher than they had to be. Then came the 1980s and President Ronald Reagan’s battles with Big Government. The airline industry was deregulated, freeing the airlines to move by the invisible hand of the market. See how much better things are today? The same thing should happen with the country’s energy and financial markets. Big Government controls theses areas of the private sector, which is the very definition of socialism. We need to let these markets be free, so we can get back to the days of the Great Depression of the 1930s and the Oil Crisis of the 1970s. Enron, we miss you.

The housing market
Here’s something that’s laughable: you can’t not sell your house to someone just because you don’t like them. It’s illegal to do that. “Equal housing opportunity” rules the land, these days. Which means you cannot turn down someone based on your personal bias toward them. Folks, I believe in one simple thing, if I don’t like you for my own prejudices, I don’t have to treat you like I would anyone else. Big Government is telling you who you have to sell your house to. And then there is low-income housing. What a crock. Our taxes go toward building condos with affordable prices for one class of citizen. As we said before, one class bending over backwards to serve another class is socialism. Nice try, Hobo Harry, go buy a nice box for you and your family to call home. The days of freeloading are over!

Bank buyouts
Once again, here we are trying to save the banks. Big Government is here to make sure bankers know that no matter what they do and how egregiously they spend their money, the American taxpayer will always be there to bail them out. Sure, they may employ millions of Americans and hold the fate of our country’s economy, but stop thinking about what’s important and look at the short term: these banks are going under because they sold loans they knew were crappy. It’s time to make an example of them and allow the Mom and Pop banks have a go for once.
